REFLEXOLOGY
What is Reflexology?
“Reflexology is a natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the hands, feet and ears, which correspond to every part, gland and organ of the body. Through application of pressure on the reflexes, reflexology relieves tension, improves circulation and helps promote the natural function of the related areas of the body.”
There are approximately 7200 nerve endings in each of the feet, which have extensive inter-connections through the spinal cords and brain with all areas of the body. Reflexology is very effective in reducing stress by putting you into a state known as the “parasympathetic” mode of the nervous system. This state facilitates the body’s ability to re-balance its self-healing potential, regulating nerve impulses and alleviating blockages.
The Treatment
A reflexology treatment session generally lasts about one hour in length. At the beginning of first session, the practitioner will assess your health and lifestyle to get an understanding of your overall well being. Following the assessment, you will lie down on a table in a comfortable, warm, quiet room. Your bare feet are worked on while soft music is played to set a relaxing mood.
The whole foot reflexology experience is intended to be a very relaxing and calming experience. The body is placed in a deep relaxation by manipulating specific reflexes. Stimulating under-active and calming overactive-areas helps release stress and enhances the glandular system. A relaxed body can function normally and heal itself. With the removal of stress and improving circulation, a state of harmony and well-being is induced within the body system.
